more about soulive
After a soul sabbatical in 2008, jazz, hip-hop, rock, soul, funk, R & B, blues soulmen Soulive have a new (old) line-up, a new album and are touring the country with their vocally and instrumentally insatiable sound. The Original Three are back and are currently jamming with Ivan Neville & Dumpstaphunk, The Wailers and Derek Trucks, just to name a few. Soulive's soul-searching trip has been wild one. Not long after forming, they were taken up by one of the most revered record labels out there in 2000, Blue Note Records, home of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and many, many more (is it getting hot in here?). From there, they moved to the reincarnation of Stax Records, a soul tradition started by of Otis Redding, Sam and Dave and, yes, Issac Hayes. They've since lived up to their hype and have toured the globe, dropping dirty all over it. In other words, Soulive keeps good company. Now, they've got their own label, Royal Family, and produce for Nigel Hall, Adam Deitch and Lettuce among others. Come October, Soulive will be at the tail end of their East Coast swing and will serve as the band du soir at 2009's Night of the Living Zoo in Washington DC!
