Magic Hat’s summer seasonal is back for more after a wildly successful opening run. With a hint of malt sweetness and a crisp, clean finish, Wacko will please any palate, no matter the genre. This warm weather beer, one in a celebrated series of seasonal libations from Magic Hat, will be available from summer’s first sunburn to the last fading tan line.
Creatively Concocted Beer an Homage to an Homage
Magic Hat first brewed a beet red beer nearly a decade ago as an homage to the lost generation of reckless love, amazing jazz and the endless landscape of emerging America: The Beat Generation. It was a beer like no other, in a category all its own:red from the whole beets added in the brewing process. However, as the brewer grew ever larger, it was forced to put production of this Beat-inspired beer on hold…until 2009.
That’s when the beet beer reemerged as Wacko, a delicious spin on the name synonymous with the Beat Generation, Jack Kerouac, and the brewer’s unusual brewing practices. Similar in spirit and contrived of pieces of the beet essential to quaffing enjoyment: beet sugar to add an ever-so-slight sweetness and to improve fermentation, and beet juice for that unmistakable red color. This all-natural creation is the result of a duet of Apollo hops and Pale malt, a delicious ale with 15 IBUs and 4.5% ABV.
